Spartan UK, part of the Metinvest Group, is a leading quarto steel plate re-roller, supplying customers in the UK and Northern Europe with a wide range of steel plates suitable for application in numerous industrial sectors, such as construction, bridges, wind turbines etc. Employing 121 people in the £105m turnover business they have achieved record breaking results in recent years.

The Challenge

Behind the operational excellence was the challenge of meeting compliance and training needs effectively without a designated IT system.

Training records were stored inside personnel files. Certificates lived in folders, so producing training reports, understanding the training needs of the business was cumbersome and during audit season, with typically six audits between September and December, producing evidence became a stressful and time-consuming ordeal.

With 121 employees on site, Health and Safety is of the highest priority, vital training areas like fork lift truck training, crane operation and engineering and maintenance categories needing constant attention, without an integrated system was challenging.

The brief for Spartan UK was to source a system that was clear, centralised, and capable of supporting both day-to-day workforce management and high-stakes auditing.
